Day Away – 2006 Mid-Year Report
Sep 11, 2006
The transition of Day Away continues. In 2004, we began the transition of Day Away from one large ministry centralized in Zürich to a multiple city ministry. The first stage of this transition was a tremendous success. It involved setting up new Day Away teams and holding Day Away events in Basel and St Gallen. Finally, we can report that the Zurich Day Away ministry (including the seminars) has been fully transitioned to a local team in Zürich. Christine Hawkes is leading the newly formed Day Away Zürich. Christine has been receiving a lot of help from various women – particularly Lyn Holmes and Mieko Azekawa. It is a blessing to watch these three women make significant improvements in the management of Day Away in Zürich.
Now that the city transitions are complete, Day Away can increasingly focus on its vision - training the local city Day Away teams, improving infrastructure to better serve the local teams and possible expansion of Day Away to other European cities.
‘Exploring Christianity’ Studies Started. In May 2006 we started three “Exploring Christianity” courses. This is a six week study developed by All Souls Church in London (John Stott’s former church). The study guide being used is geared to those who do not speak English as their mother tongue. The teachers for the three courses are Sally Johnston (Wednesday evening), Christine Hawkes (Tuesday morning) and Gay Boehm (Thursday morning).
Improved Communication. One of our primary goals for the second half of 2006 is improved communication at all levels of Day Away. At the request of the city Day Away teams, a new brochure introducing Day Away is being created. Also, a new website is being designed. Our goal is to have both of these new tools available before the Fall seminar events.
Follow-up. One of the most important parts of Day Away is the opportunity for women to have one-on-one or small group interaction with each other and Day Away leaders. The various seminar events are often the catalysts for these follow-up conversations which, by nature, are more private.
Each Day Away city is responsible for the follow-up in their city. Day Away Zürich has experimented with various ways of encouraging additional dialogue following the seminar. For example, one method of encouragement used by the Day Away team in Zürich is called “Latte on Us”. On the Monday and Tuesday immediately following the Day Away Seminar in Zürich, women were invited to drop by Starbucks for a ‘latte on us’ – with the opportunity to meet the Day Away speaker (in this case Dr Joyce Hulgus) and talk about life issues from a Biblical perspective. The response to “Latte on Us” was overwhelming as more than 40 women accepted the offer and came to Starbuck for coffee and conversation.
Dayaway.org Gets A Facelift
Sep 11, 2006
Welcome to the new Day Away.org website! Did you notice the changes? We certainly hope so!
Day Away is growing and so are its communication needs. From one city to three. From 300 to more than 600 women attending seminars annually. More cities. More teams. More women. More Bible studies. More commitment to serving the women of Europe in the name of our Lord.
So please, take a moment to look around. Some of the new features include
- The ability to listen to archived presentations of prior Day Away seminars
- The Daily Challege which invites you to read scripture and
- Taking the Challenge Deeper which invites you to consider the application of scripture to your life journey
- Lots and lots of pictures
And there is even more … but we want you to click through and discover this for yourself.
We graciously acknowledge the people who made this new website possible. Josh and Dave at Subventurate for their development work. Theo, Jon and Caspar for helping with the new design.
On behalf of Day Away and the Day Away teams in Basel, St Gallen and Zürich, we want you to enjoy your visit to dayaway.org. We look forward to seeing you at the next Day Away event.
